Straddling the worlds of Bon Iver’s heyday in the infamous Wisconsin cabin and Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska recordings, Dude Cervantes All by Myself captures the inquisitive observations and desolate emotion both writers had while living in seclusion. All by Myself is an invocation of mindfulness, a meditative gesture that addresses the intense concepts we interact with during honest reflection.

Recorded by Cervantes on a Tascam 388 and later mixed by Jordan Andreen (Lukas Nelson, Karl Denson, The Damned), All By Myself is by all standards a lo-fi classic. Forged by a time of despair and uncertainty the album plays like a man in a confession booth. The one-man-against-the-world ethos and unadulterated reflection make this record simultaneously altruistic and defiant. This is no pristine hi-fi record. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: It’s an album that locks us in the rooms Cervantes holed up to record them.
